Choosing local vendors for your wedding is not only smart but often less expensive and less stressful. Since I shoot both professional photography and videography I have had several opportunities to work with other professionals when the bride has chosen to not book Outer Banks Productions for both photography & videography. As a professional myself, I am always able to work with the other professional and accommodate a mutual workflow during the wedding events but it does add an additional stress to the day.

What I see the most is that non local vendors are often at a great disadvantage with important issues such as weather, location knowledge, tides and a general poor understanding of how Outer Banks weddings usually run. Fortunately most of our customers hire us for both photography and videography so it’s not usually an issue. In 8 years though, I have witnessed he following: Raleigh photographer got lost and almost did not make the wedding. Raleigh photographer was not familiar with the local beach environment and had camera troubles. Virginia photographer got stuck in traffic for a bridge opening and almost did not make the wedding. Raleigh caterer got stuck on the beach and had to get towed to the wedding. I’ve also witnessed bands, videographers and florist vendor issues and much more!

When planning a wedding it is most important to have the most competent vendors available for your given budget. In most cases that’s going to be the local vendors. Outer Banks weddings are generally very different from weddings inland and knowing what to expect and having the experience of shooting Outer Banks weddings is a clear advantage. That’s going to make your wedding day a less stressful, and better experience.
